Photo sessions for the Keene location at 149 Emerald Street will be held on Saturday November 14th from 10 am to 6 pm. You'll get a professional portrait that reflects your pet's personality and style, and local charities will get some much needed support. Backyard Habitat Builder is a series of three monthly half-day classes with hands-on outdoor projects where you will learn about and create habitat components for birds, butterflies and other wildlife. After completing each seasonal series, you will have the essential knowledge, practical experience and self-confidence to transform your own yard into an oasis for urban wildlife. Classes are instructed by Joe Blanton, the Arboretum's Conservation Director, who is certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Backyard Habitat Designer. All classes are held on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. with hands-on projects completed on the Arboretum grounds. Most classes also include take-home items assembled in class. Materials and tools required for each class will be provided. The projects for this upcoming class will be “The Amphibian House & Brush Pile Hotel.” The next class on December 6th will be “Establishing Permanent Food Sources for Wildlife.” Cost is $60 for members; $80 for non-members; Arboretum members can sign up for the series of fall classes (3) at a discounted rate of $150. It's a walk in the park, at Nickelodeon Universe® at Mall of America® Bring the family, including the pooch, but leave the parkas at home, for a morning of indoor fun to support Home for Life® Website: www.homeforlife.org In addition to participating in this history-making indoor walk, attendees both human and canine will enjoy all kinds of goodies: Get photos taken with Santa. Listen to holiday music while you browse vendor tables and collect giveaways and samples. Enjoy free refreshments and goodies. Enter your pooch in contests. Prizes will be awarded for the oldest, youngest, smallest, and biggest dog, the best-dressed dog, and the dog who most resembles his or her handler. Meet dogs from Home for Life®. Preview The Art of the Dog—a display of one-of-kind dog statues and dog houses created by local artists. (The Art of the Dog will be on display throughout the holiday season at the Faces of Home For Life® in front of Nordstrom at Mall of America.) Registration: $25 per dog accompanied by at least one human companion at 18 or older. $25 per person for walkers without dogs. Kids under 12 walk free. Build your own fundraising page, from which you can email others and collect pledges. Spread the word to your contacts. Make a general donation, in the event that the walk is too doggone early for you. 2. Download a pledge sheet. Dogs must have proof of vaccinations, be on a leash, and be accompanied by a handler age 18 or over. You don't need to bring water for your dog; water dishes will be posted along the route. Where do I report for registration and check-in? Please report to the EAST entrance of the mall for check-in on the day of the event. How far are we going to walk? The formal dog walk will take place between 7:45 and 8:30. Walking parties can make one or more circuits around the park during that time. One lap around Nickelodeon park is approximately ¼ mile, or 1500 feet. What if my dog has to... answer nature's call? Volunteers will be posted along the route with scoopers.
