Sunday 8 November - Multi Faith Act of Remembrance South-east London’s annual Community Multi Faith Act of Remembrance will be held at the Museum on the afternoon of Sunday 8 November. The ceremony, which is open to the public and is free of charge, will remember the sacrifices made by all nations and faiths in times of war. Faiths invited to participate from the south-east London community will include Bahai, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Quaker and Sikh. The event which will close with The Last Post being sounded, followed by a two minute silence. Refreshments will be served after the Act of Remembrance and all are invited to attend.

Stars Ball 2009 is a blacktie optional gala modeled after the Oscars. Instead of actors receiving the praise and excitement, they are replaced with people much more important the children in the Philadelphia region battling cancer and other terminal diseases. For one night, these children escape the cruel reality of needles, treatments and medicine into a world of fantasywhere they are the star!

The girls receive formal dresses and get professional hair and makeup while the boys are fitted for black tuxes. They are picked up in a stretch limo and brought to the Please Touch Museum to walk the red carpet lined with adults waiting to get a picture and autograph of their favorite little stars. This night is meant to make them feel special and to feel like a star.

Little Smiles is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that provides toys, computers, special events and celebrity meetings for children in local hospitals, hospices and shelters. The majority of the children receiving our efforts are seriously or terminally ill. Our mission is to help kids escape, at least for a little while, from their treatment rooms into a land of fantasy. We respond to the needs of the children directly through the nurses that care for them and provide whatever it takes to make their world a better place.
