From Chant to Carol: Christmas music based on Gregorian chant and plainsong. Under the direction of Dr. Erik Jones, the 34-member a cappella ensemble explores the evolution of holiday music, starting with early chants from well-known composers, followed by modern pieces influenced by such chants, and finishing the concert with a series of breathtaking arrangements of traditional carols. The Washington Post has declared, "The Master Singers of Virginia is among the state's finest choral ensembles." Celebrating its 15th anniversary this season, the group is dedicated to bringing the highest quality choral music to the people of Northern Virginia and DC. The concert will be preceded by an informative lecture and followed by a reception.

This is a popluar local band complete with a horn section that will blow you away (no pun intended). Every song is a wall of sound and energy; from the most driving R&B tune to the sweetest ballad. They've established a loyal following of fans who know how to party and love good music. Does that sound like you? There will be several meetup groups at this show so it should be a good time. Whether you're still talking about previous year's hysterical night of holiday cheer or whether you're envious from hearing the non-stop buzz around town... You are now officially invited to the annual "Santa Claus Bar Crawl" in Reston Town Center! It's a riot!! The rules are simple... 1) Wear a Santa suit. I know what you're asking - Do you absolutely have to dress up as Santa Claus...no, but dressing up is required! Come join your fellow EDM members for one last HH before the New Year!!! Would love to see a a great turn out. ***UPDATE*** EDM has decided to sponsor a family again this year for Christmas! We had such a great response last year and so many folks were willing to help out that we decided to do it again. If you'd like to help, that would be great and if you can't this year or would rather not, please don't feel any pressure to do so. We have been assigned a family in Herndon which has two children, a 12 year old girl named Samantha and a 9 year old boy named Nicolas. I have made contact with the mother to get information from her regarding the family needs including the children's clothing and shoe sizes as well as what interests they have and if they have asked for anything specific for Christmas. Another great gift has always been gift cards for groceries. I will post this information as soon as I have it. There will be two HH events (this one and one in December, date TBD) where folks can bring gifts (wrapped or unwrapped) for us to collect. Unfortunately for many of us, these gold shots are few and far between. Sure, we can get the occasional brilliant photo, but we find it hard to put together time after time. Don't worry, most of us have the same problem! The thing is that by taking your time with a few basic skills, you can greatly increase the chances that you are going to increase your average for getting that great shot. The funny thing is that none of these skills are particularly difficult. Tonight's Workshop: It's All About Exposure! Tonight we are explore the world of exposure. We will discuss the relationships between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. It is possible to get that picture that you want if you know a few simple tips and tricks. This is a hands-on workshop and a camera is required. Please bring your camera and your questions. If you have not used your camera in awhile, or your camera is new to you, please bring along the users manual. Keep those shutters snapping.
