Description: AV
with Entice , static Session, Polaris at NoonAV
The spirit of AV existed long before its musical manifestation. The members of this five-piece rock band: Brandon Turner (vocals), Matty Hoffman (lead guitar), Christopher Love (rythym guitar), Seven (bass), and Michael Castillo (drums), experienced the trials of growing up together eventually leading to their rise in the local music scene in Tucson, Arizona. Their strong musical bond provides the foundation for the AV sound and stage performance, which is strikingly professional given their relative youth. Performing together for over four years, AV is constantly striving for originality and uniqueness in songwriting and shows, and seeks to transcend the barriers of being defeated by a typical genre stereotype by truly writing from the heart and soul. In September of 2008, AV released their first E.P., “BeLIEve Me,” an album suggesting that people should question what others sell to them as the truth, presented in a thought-provoking, classical-meets-modern approach to rock music. Since the release, AV has continued to play many local shows to increase their fan base, and has also been constantly writing new riffs, lyrics, and songs to collect more material for the next chance to spend time recording in the studio, hopefully as a signed, national act. The technique and talent obvious at an AV show separates them from the local band collective. Each band member’s love and passion for music showcases their musical discipline and individual style, resulting in an eclectic combination of sound and fresh perspective to interpreting lyrics. It’s not all about the music; the band is also serious about their stage performance. The entire experience of AV live is both provocative and entertaining, and has been recognized by local promoters, earning them the privilege of sharing the stage with national bands like MxPx, Head Automatica, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Plain White T’s, Quietdrive, Madina Lake, A Change of Pace, and Versus the Mirror.Entice
ENTICE: ORANGE COUNTY REVEALS A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. Arising from the sweltering heat that has been burning down Los Angeles, one band seems to have the antidote. ENTICE, an Orange County based quartet has been turning heads with their appropriately titled album LET THE FIRE COME. The tracks carry over a relief of heavy, yet tranquil melodies that set the tone for a variety of publics to enjoy. Recorded at Orange Crush Studio with producer Scott Silletta, LET THE FIRE COME exasperates the efforts of the hard working band and reaches a level of professionalism that promises to astonish even the toughest critics. The self-proclaimed singles “The Watchman” and “Who’s Got Your Money” have gained Entice a spot amongst the Alternative and Active Rock-Pop genres. The songs carry through mature lyrics and notions that fall above love, lust and heartbreak. “The gentle rock melodies of Entice are a breath of fresh air in a superficial, plastic world that wants everything fast, hard, and loud” (www.Drivenfaroff.com). There is no question about these guys gaining support to potentially fit in with various radio formats. With every track out-doing the next, LET THE FIRE COME holds its weight in gold, yet Entice truly is all about the music. In accordance with the album release, all eleven songs are available for review via MySpace. It’s no contest; this meticulous foursome is working overtime to establish something they refer to as “building a legacy, an empire-undivided.”The static Session Polaris at noon

Description: Vic Chesnuttwith Liz Durrett
The backing musicians that came together with Vic to record Vic’s acclaimed 2007 release North Star Deserter, live in concert in the North Star State! Quirky, idiosyncratic, and definitely one-of-a-kind, Vic’s is a voice to be heard and savored in a world of conformity. Vic Chesnutt is the real deal, a man who lives for music and who has tirelessly deployed his impish, surly, witty, unflinching perspective in hundreds of songs featuring brilliantly unique wordsmithery and a profound playfulness that thumbs its nose at a life of seriously hard knocks. Vic’s prolific writing – chock of full of real irony, wonderful turns of phrase, humour, rage and tenderness, brutal literalism and ornate observation – constitutes a truly original voice and reflects a truly indomitable spirit. Chesnutt has worked with many collaborators over his twenty-year music career, notably with Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) who produced his first couple of records in the early 1990s, and over the past decade with musicians and groups as diverse as Widespread Panic, Lambchop, Bill Frisell, Jonathan Richman (with whom we has toured many times over the years) and Elf Power. His first album for Constellation, North Star Deserter (2007), was also his first collaboration with Thee Silver Mt. Zion (among other label-affiliated musicians in Constellation’s home town of Montreal) and Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto, in sessions orchestrated by mutual friend and celebrated New York filmmaker Jem Cohen. LISTEN USA music magazine Paste ranked North Star Deserter the best of his numerous collaborative albums over the last dozen years, and the record was widely acclaimed, signaling a true return to form for Vic (though it remained rather criminally overlooked in the USA). A core group of players emerged from this first recording to accompany Vic on two European tours in support of the album: Thierry Amar (bass), Efrim Menuck (guitar), Jessica Moss (violin) and David Payant (drums) all of Thee Silver Mt. Zion, along with Guy Picciotto (guitar) from Fugazi, and Nadia Moss (piano, organ) and Chad Jones (guitar) from Witchies (and previous outfit Frankie Sparo). This same troupe reunited for Vic’s second Constellation album, At The Cut (2009), once again recorded by Howard Bilerman at Hotel2Tango in Montreal. The Vic Chesnutt Band features an explosive group of arrangers and players, allowing Vic to conjure howling rage and devastating fragile grace in equal measure. The band represents a return of sorts for Guy Picciotto as well, who has kept busy as a producer in the years since Fugazi’s indefinite hiatus, but for whom this project represents his most sustained return to guitar playing and full-on ‘band duty’ (and a welcome one it is). Chad Jones and Nadia Moss are two of Montreal’s best-kept musical secrets, though those who’ve heard and remember Frankie Sparo’s Constellation releases will be familiar with Chad’s brilliantly angular guitar playing, Nadia’s lovely touch on piano and organ, and their combined ear for arrangement. Thee Silver Mt. Zion players are well-known for the raw power and intensity of their live playing and the inventiveness of their unique contribution to a punk rock/protest music cannon that embraces classical, psych, blues, rock and folkways tropes. Shortly after the release of North Star Deserter most of the players set out for a debut European tour, which included a special performance in collaboration with filmmaker Jem Cohen titled Empires Of Tin, commissioned by the Viennale (Vienna International Film Festival). This ‘film hallucination’ with live soundtrack was itself recorded by the Viennale and subsequently issued on DVD as a co-release with Constellation. WATCH CLIPS One of the songs from Empires, “Coward”, would go on to appear as the lead-off track to Vic’s second album with this band, At The Cut (release in September 2009). Vic Chesnutt has a well-deserved reputation as a merry prankster of sorts, but also as a true original — a writer/musician who has consistently communicated real emotion and meaning through wry observation and dry wit. Chesnutt’s work with his band in concert and on these Constellation albums is his most defiant, his angriest, his most honest, and his tenderest and most personal. Vic is making some of the strongest — and certainly the most mature — music of his wonderful career. And if this music finds him explicitly staring down (and thumbing his nose at) the face of mortality and working itself deeper into narratives about memory and place and loss — well, Mr. Chesnutt certainly knows of what he sings (having survived a car accident at age 18 that confined him to a wheelchair and has subjected him to an endless cavalcade of complications, procedures, emergencies and towering medical bills ever since), and he sings it without nostalgia, refusing to sentimentalise or platitudinise anything about his profound sense of place (the South, the wheelchair, 21st century America during the bubbles and the terror wars,). It is refreshing to hear how Vic Chesnutt sidesteps any of the obvious Southern Gothic tropes, lyrically and musically: no vaulted arches, gaping abysses or burning fields here – no ‘voicing’ of the preacher or the devil, no putting on airs. Vic manages to sing authentically and wholeheartedly, railing against his personal fate without bitterness, without apology, with a sardonic and sometimes angry poetics of the passionately humanist and secular variety: framed by the back porch, championing a humble wisdom, a sincere ethics (without moralising) and a natural literateness. Certainly permitting a wisecrack or three, but never allowing for anything hackneyed or cornball, faux or forced. Since 1990, Chesnutt has released 15 critically acclaimed records; been covered by a number of artists on the tribute album Sweet Relief II: Gravity of the Situation (including R.E.M., the Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna and Sparklehorse); was the subject of the 1992 PBS documentary Speed Racer and appeared in the Oscar Award-winning film Sling Blade.LIZ DURETT

Meet & Greet The question has been answered. The answer is now. When can I meet Maynard? Now¹s your chance to say "Hi" face to face with the voice behind PUSCIFER Tool, and APC! No, he won't sing at your wedding, but he will look at you for a second, maybe two.
He may even have a party favor for you.
***Call the box office at 520.740.1000 for information and times as the event approaches.*** ------------------------------ Enigmatic is a misnomer. Most likely a byproduct of my absence in the press. An assumption arrived at due to the lack of available information, accurate or otherwise. I don t do that many interviews. Generally because of my private life and my classified activities, but mostly because I m not very good at them. The conversation in my head never matches the conversation that ends up in print. So says the conductor and driving force behind Puscifer, the current project of vocalist Maynard James Keenan. I guess maybe it s time to come clean on a few things. As you most likely suspected, I m an undercover C.I.A. operative. Hence the tendency towards the secretive behavior. I ve been an agent since I was 11 years old. I was recruited at a county fair at the age of 8. Multiple blue ribbons in the disciplines of knots, archery, and animal husbandry may have been the carrot that lured in the agency, but I can t be certain. Suffice it to say that not unlike Elvis, I answered when my nation called. Willingly. Of course, all that I ve said and all I m about to disclose is highly classified and not to be repeated. Pinky promise? Secrets and the voices in Maynard s head are clearly the fuel that move this new project. Those and perhaps a slightly loose grip on what most of us would consider reality. Hey! I heard that! mumbles one of his many voices. For the moment, let s ignore the voices and focus on the so-called facts. Puscifer is Maynard s multifaceted, multimedia, multi-artist, multi-personality project. It involves film, music, digital video, garments, feminine hygiene products, coffee, pet supplies, websites, blogs, artist collaborations, a few office supplies, and a grip on the idea that chaos is good and that change is inevitable. Just a few of the artists who have passed through these confusing gates: Mat Mitchell, Tim Alexander, Lei Li, Jonny Polonsky, Cherie Roberts, Ainjel Emme, Brandon Bryant, Danny Lohner, Josh Eustis, Gil and Rani Sharone, Lustmord, Laura Milligan, Meats Meier, Evil Joe Barresi, Trey Gunn, Milla Jovovich, Lisa Germano, Tim Cadiente, Ford Englerth, Jeffrey Brooks, Micah, Alan Moulder, Eddie McClintock, Joe Nagy, Nipples Creelman, Devo. The list goes on. Actually, none of these people really exist. Each is a deep cover alias. That none of them bare any resemblance whatsoever to the real me is a testament to my hard work, keen focus, and attention to detail. A few I ve been developing for decades. Truth or Tragedy? The verdict is still out. Many of these collaborative efforts will see the light of day in the Fall of 2007. The release date for the full collection of songs titled V is for Vagina is Oct. 30, and the scheduled unveiling of several new pieces and garments, available only at puscifer.com, is Sept. 27, the birthday of Maynard s Yorkie and sidekick, Miho (also rumored to be an alias.) So why this new project? Dare we ask? I m on a mission. I ve been assigned to be the guardian of a highly classified, highly effective Sonic Weapon of Mass Disruption. This sonic technology when 'unleashed, if you will, causes parts of the anatomy to vibrate uncontrollably. Not unlike when someone yawns, everyone in the surrounding area will be affected. If executed properly, the subjects will be temporarily distracted from their duties. Their bodies will appear to be abducted by the Soul Train, as if J-Lo were auditioning for the 'Thriller video. Awe inspiring. Don t speak a word of it.
