Course Abstract for "Idea Mapping: A Learning Workshop"
"Being adaptable in a flat world, knowing how to "learn how to learn," will be one of the most important assets any worker can have..."
Thomas Friedman -- Author of The World is Flat, page 239
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION - This course teaches foundational skills necessary for exceptional success in leadership, creativity, thinking, and learning in business and life. This workshop focuses on building your skills in these areas so that you can apply them immediately to your profession and life.
This is NOT a lecture-driven, PowerPoint, theory-filled, boring training class!
It is an exciting, activity-driven, skill-building, multi-sensory adventure in learning to use your brain more effectively and efficiently! You will experience significant improvement while learning skills that most adults believe to be difficult, if not impossible. Two of those skills are not discussed in the content of this abstract, so that they are a surprise for you during the course! You will truly amaze yourself.
Creating idea maps is one of the central components of this workshop. This tool is based on Jamie Nast's book titled Idea Mapping: How to Access Your Hidden Brain Power, Learn Faster, Remember More, and Achieve Success in Business (John Wiley & Sons 2006). Other topics covered include creativity, memory, and a model for learning. This learning model is then applied to learning all of the other skills offered in this course. You will also be introduced to Mindjet's MindManager software.
These two days are just the beginning of a learning journey that can continue for a lifetime! Get ready to revolutionize your thinking during this mind-expanding workshop!
AUDIENCE - For anyone who desires to unleash their own learning potential and learn innovative approaches for addressing today's business and educational issues.
LENGTH - Two days; 8:30am - 5:00pm. Pre-registration is required.
OBJECTIVES - At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
1. Create idea maps
2. Think more clearly, creatively and efficiently
3. Apply learning process theory to overcome mental blocks that inhibit learning, and apply this model to learning several new skills
4. Identify and implement personal and business applications of idea mapping and other skills learned during this workshop
WHAT IS IDEA MAPPING? - Idea mapping has a rich foundation in Mind Mapping®, originated by Tony Buzan in the 1960's. Tony defines it this way:
"A mind map harnesses the full range of cortical skills - word, image, number, logic, rhythm, color and spatial awareness - in a single, uniquely powerful technique. In doing so, it gives you the freedom to roam the infinite expanse of your brain."
Idea mapping is a hybrid tool that combines the positives of the mind-mapping laws with the freedom to break them. The feedback from sceptical, overworked, linearly-trained business professionals has caused the creation of idea maps as the practical, flexible, and more usable version of mind maps. Once the rules and techniques of idea mapping are established and learned, you'll be breaking every one of them to make these maps apply to you in the most effect way possible. You will be the creator of the style and rules that work for you!
IDEA-MAPPING APPLICATIONS -This technique may be applied to every aspect of your job and life where improved learning and clearer thinking will enhance performance. The applications of idea maps are numerous, but following are some of the more typical uses:
Strategic planning Creating & delivering presentations
Meeting agendas & summaries Project management
Consolidating complex information Team & individual data collection
Performance reviews Developing organizational & individual vision
Solve problems Book or article summaries
Decision making Marketing strategies
Planning events (or anything!) Planning & delivering courses
Taking notes Sales processes
Proposal summaries for clients Creating a book of knowledge on any topic
Mapping a to-do list Managing complex information
Bringing clarity to a crisis situation Assimilate large volumes of information quickly
Idea maps enhance your ability to make connections synergistically among widely disparate events, ideas and information by providing a way to simultaneously see the "big picture" and the connections between ideas at the same time.
For examples of Idea Maps from other business people around the globe business around the globeclick here or go to the Idea Mapping Blog.

Description: Vivaldi Orchestra Prague, led by the Czech baroque specialist and violinist Václav Návrat, presents compositions by Vivaldi!
In Prague, Vivaldi's music was very popular during his lifetime. Between 1726 and 1736 six of Vivaldi´s operas, two of which were premieres, were performed in Count Sporck´s theatre in Prague. Since this time, Vivaldi was already famous across Europe and travelled especially to performances of his works - it is believed that he lived for an extended period in Prague.
The operas were staged by A. Denzio's operatic company from Venice, for whom Vivaldi hired singers in Italy and organized the new operatic works. Many unique manuscripts of his works are preserved in Czech archives. Some were written directly at the request of Czech noblemen, e.g. the lute compositions for Count Vrtba. Vivaldi´s most famous work 'Il cimento dell' armonia e dell' inventione'. Antonio Vivaldi himself directed the Morzin's ensemble during their concerts in Italy.
Vivaldi Orchestra Prague, led by the Czech baroque specialist and violinist Václav Návrat, wants to join tradition with this outstanding ensembles and bring new content to the rather inflexible understanding of museum authenticity. This is not a slavish copying of old forms in the old ways, but a discovery of the symbolism of the baroque period in all its breadth - the joining of its richness of sound with visual imagery and the creation of an environment in which the illusion of the dreaming of past beauties can be created! |

Description: Robin Spielberg is one of America’s most beloved pianist/composers. With an impressive tour schedule and hundreds of thousands of recordings sold, this Steinway Artist has been winning the hearts of listeners around the world with her compelling melodies and sensitive piano technique since debuting her first recording of original solos for piano, “Heal of the Hand.”
“A New Kind of Love” is Robin Spielberg’s 15th CD,
and her first of all-original work in eight years.
It is also her most personal and expressive yet.
“A New Kind of Love” marks the artist’s return to creating the kind of music for which she is most famous: melodic soundtracks for her life journey. Exploring friendships, world beauty, the passage of time and the transitions of seasons, the CD is an intimate listening experience bound to resonate with Spielberg’s legions of fans as well as those new to her music.
The title track chronicles a walk among friends. Spielberg starts alone, but the companions she encounters along the way encourage her to keep going both literally and metaphorically. The longest track on the CD, this eight-minute journey is a quiet and peaceful exploration of self-discovery and understanding.
Fun, upbeat and filled with the unexpected, “This Busy Life” is the artist’s admission that the pressure, stress and fast-paced nature of her life is what she seeks most in a world telling her to slow down. Her family’s relocation from the New Jersey suburbs to a rural Pennsylvania town three years ago proved to be a catalyst for discovering the many layers to the loves and losses experienced in her life’s travels, giving her a new musical viewpoint. “Eileen”, written for her sister, is a musical statement of new-found layers of relationship and connection while “Seeing You Seeing Me” is an anthem gratitude to her good friend and mentor, Robin Goldsby.
Other musical adventures on the recording include “Until You Come Home” which chronicles the feelingsof waiting and longing that only a mother knows, and the tongue-in-cheek swing piece "it's All Just As Well” composed on the heels of a stinging rejection.
“Composing music is my way of seeing the world,” says Spielberg. “It always has been. It is through these melodies that I remember and understand my experiences and my place in the world.” Fortunately for this composer, her listeners relate.
Letters from around the world have poured into Spielberg’s inbox over the years letting her know that her music has comforted, inspired, motivated, lifted and provided the soundtracks for their own life’s journeys.

Description: LIVE NATION CANADA is pleased to present Great Big Sea with special guests on Thursday, November 26th at 7:30 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
Great Big Sea is a bastard. Forged from the loins of Figgy Duff and Ryan’s Fancy, GBS found its feet on the unforgiving streets of St. John’s, and stood their ground when others faltered. When asked about their unlikely success, founding member Bob Hallett is typically candid: “We weren’t the best musicians in town,” he says, “we just wanted it more. We were driven by a bloody-minded need to succeed and we were rewarded for our bleeding.”
The band dragged themselves out of the city’s infamous bars to release their Warner debut “Up” in the spring of 1995. Relentless touring and a raucous live show quickly propelled the record to platinum. Their next effort “Play” enjoyed even bigger success and the band moved its show into hockey stadiums across the nation.
The US labels took notice and GBS was subsequently signed to Sire by Seymour Stein (Madonna/Talking Heads), who unleashed the band on an unsuspecting American public. Accolades and a solid cult following ensued. “We are showmen and we live and die by our trade,” offers electrified lead singer Alan Doyle. “I am drawn to the light and I was born to burn”.
Born and raised in ‘the far east of the western world’, the lads have traversed the globe, all the while wearing their hometown on their sleeves. “Our music is of Newfoundland,” explains McCann. “It would be impossible to do what we do if we were from anywhere else. Our songs come from the sea and the cliffs and the rocks and all the other natural beauties our country provides. Without her, we simply couldn’t exist.”
For this, their latest and ninth album Fortune’s Favour, the band made the surprise choice to work with indie gadfly Hawksley Workman.
“We wanted to push ourselves, to be surprised by our own music,” said Hallett, “and Hawksley was the right pilot for the flight…or the fight, depending on the circumstances.”
A remarkable 15 years in, the band should by this time be content to slow down and rest on their laurels. Instead, Fortune’s Favour sees them boldly embracing new sounds and new ideas, fearlessly pushing the boundaries of their own art and music. In their lifelong quest to marry the traditional music of Newfoundland with their own pop explorations, Fortune’s Favour is a new benchmark.
“We embraced the law of the road when we started this, and we apply the same rules to our music,” explains Doyle. “If you are not going forwards, you are going backwards. And we hate retracing our steps.”
“This album is a stew of all our influences, “adds Hallett. “Bob Marley, the Clash, Fergus O’Byrne, Ron Hynes, Johnny Cash, Donal Lunny, and who knows what else. So who better to sum it all up than C.S. Lewis: ‘Further in and further up’”
Alan Doyle, Sean McCann, and Bob Hallett still live, breath, and create in Newfoundland and Labrador. Their 9th studio recording, Fortune’s Favour can be found in stores and on line now.
Don’t miss an evening with Great Big Sea at South Okanagan Event Centre on Thursday, November 26, 2009. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. |

Cilette Swann's (Canadian/US) exquisitely ethereal, yet powerful four-octave range vocals are partnered with Roman Morykit's (UK) masterful bass and innovative guitar counterpoint. Compared by critics to artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Eva Cassidy, Kate Bush, David Gray, Fleetwood Mac and Bonnie Raitt, these independent mavericks have produced ten critically acclaimed CD. Their 9th Cd, Beneath The Covers: A Rediscovery just won Best International Cover Song CD in the worlds largest music awards at Just Plain Folks (aka: the independent Grammys) out of 42,000 CDs from 150 plus countries.
Gypsy Soul has been hailed as "one of the most brilliantly instrumented and vocally adept bands alive and kicking," by the OC WEEKLY. "It is impossible not to be touched by the magic and the wonder of the Gift of Story and Song given so gently and generously by these beautiful angels of music. The music of Gypsy Soul IS a Conversation with God." - NEALE DONALD WALSCH, NY Times Best Selling Author.
"A gorgeous mix of rich female folk, pop, jazz with touches of bluegrass. This is highly enriched folk that nourishes the dried up gardens of the soul." - CD BABY
“An exquisite slice of Celtic-influenced, groove-abundant modern pop.” - PERFORMING SONGWRITER (Top D.I.Y - 3 times)
Searching for a musical soul mate, Swann traveled to Europe chasing her Celtic roots. After a few years singing in French jazz clubs, her quest took her to Scotland where she met world-class musician and producer, Morykit. The duo has since recorded ten CDs over a decade. Through their relentless touring and unforgettable performances, these esteemed performers have sold over 110,000 CDs in the U.S. alone without label support. Their music has aired in numerous countries and over 120 times in films and TV shows including Providence, Felicity, Roswell, After Sex, Quicksand and others. Like an exquisite dessert, Gypsy Soul's eclectic sound and acoustic excellence is a rich, multi-layered experience that has been described by KLOS RADIO as "Gourmet Music."

HOUSE
Canadian born Jason Hurtubise, first arrived in the house music scene in late 1991, taking on Toronto’s underground party scene he developed his DJing skills on the decks with the likes of New York - New Jersey sounds. Todd Terry, Kenny Dope + Lil Louie Vega (Maw) Zack Tomz, and Todd Edwards are a few of Hodges’ favorite producers.
Drawn to the sounds of drum machines, Hodges began renting gear from local music stores until finally deciding on a E-MU SP 1200, a piece commonly used by Hip Hop producers since it’s arrival in 1987.
Hard-hitting beats with deep grooves became the signature sound for Hodges – whether in the studio, on the dance floors; from local Toronto gigs, to the surrounding towns around Ontario and across Canada, Hodges was growing and coming into his own.
Jason began releasing records with various Toronto labels getting his feet wet remixing and co-producing tracks with some of Canada’s talents. After many years of training and development, Hodges returned to the scene with a new energy and a new plan.
As a part of the All World Entertainment (now Apt Entertainment) team of house DJ’s and producers, Hodges teamed up with DJ Sneak on co-productions and remix work for several notable and established artists. Hodges & Sneak (AKA ‘The Jizznackaz”) have collaborated on a number of Sneak’s projects and records for Magnetic Recordings, as well as Sneak’s imprint label Oomph Recordings.
2003 opened the floodgates for world travel and new music projects. Jason continued to build his profile; remixing artists like Freaks on MMF, Kaskade on OM, Sneak’s “Fix my Sink” on Magnetic, Cozy Creatures Oomph, Bosh, an EP for Swirl People on Aroma Records (Belgium), EP for Oomph Records (USA), EP for OAE Records (USA), Amenti Music, with many of his productions featured on several House of OM CD Series’ (Carter & Farina LIVE, DJ Sneak, Fred Everything) as well as Mark Farina AND Derrick Carter’s ‘Sessions’ for Ministry of Sound UK, respectively – all promising a steady and bright future for Canada’s best-kept secret.
These last 2 and a half years have sent Jason across the globe, from Brazil to Belgium to Bulgaria, all the UK majors and exclusive Ministry of Sound events, Istanbul, Turkey, the Netherlands and over to Asia and Australia with the beautiful continent South Africa on the horizon.
For those who know, the name Jason Hodges represents the technical craft he pours into every production, with highly anticipated tracks being played and praised by the likes of Mark Farina, DJ Heather, Derrick Carter, DJ Raoul, among other eminent House Music Pioneers around the world.
Sneak on Hodges: “He’s the Kenny Dope of Toronto”. He has productively advanced into a solid house music trooper…”

Description: Over the course of his 30-year career, guitarist and vocalist Coco Montoya's explosive guitar playing and soul-driven voice have propelled him to the upper reaches of the blues-rock world. From his early days as a drummer to his current status as one of the top-drawing guitarists and vocalists on the blues-rock scene, Montoya has forged his reputation through years of hard work and constant touring. And it all started with a chance meeting in the mid-1970s with legendary bluesman Albert Collins, who offered Montoya a gig as his drummer. Albert took an immediate liking to Montoya, becoming his mentor and teaching his new protégé secrets of the Collins "icy hot" style of blues guitar. Five years later, John Mayall happened to catch Montoya at a jam session and was blown away. This led to Montoya's touring the world for ten years with the legendary Bluesbreakers. Since stepping out as a bandleader in 1993, Montoya has released four solo albums and has performed non-stop at clubs, concert halls and major festivals all over the world. At every show, fans' jaws dropped, and critics raved about Montoya's mind-bending guitar licks and impassioned vocals. "The fiery blues that issue forth from Coco Montoya's guitar are awe-inspiring and boogie requiring," shouted The Village Voice. "Blistering, pure blues," cheered Blues Revue. Now, with Can't Look Back (AL 4885), Montoya turns up the intensity with another dose of his feral, soul-stirring music.
On Can't Look Back, Montoya once again uses blues as a blasting off point for his rock solid, groove-laden music. With his icy hot guitar playing and his soulful, unaffected vocals, Montoya attacks each of the 13 songs with deep feeling and ferocious energy. Produced by Jim Gaines (Luther Allison, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan), every song on Can't Look Back (including five Montoya originals) burns from start to finish. From the scorching Wish I Could Be That Strong to the grooves and passion of Trip, Stumble And Fall to the ear-catching Can't Look Back to the reinvention of Albert Collins' Same Old Thing, Montoya brings all the unbridled force of his acclaimed live shows into the studio for a foot-stomping, guitar-fueled ride.
Coco Montoya was born in Santa Monica, California in 1951 and raised by working class parents with a large record collection. As a youngster, he enjoyed picking out notes on the guitar, but he grew up playing drums in local rock bands. In 1969, Montoya saw Albert King opening up a Creedence Clearwater Revival/Iron Butterfly concert and was transformed. "After Albert got done playing," says Montoya, "my life was changed. When he played, the music went right into my soul. It grabbed me so emotionally that I had tears welling up in my eyes. Nothing had ever affected me to this level. He showed me what music and guitar playing were all about. I knew that was what I wanted to do."
By the mid-1970s, Montoya was playing drums in several local rock bands, one of which played a small Culver City, California bar on weekends. One Sunday, Albert Collins was booked to play a matinee there and the club owner gave Collins permission to use Montoya's drums. Montoya continues the story: "I show up to pick up my equipment and I see that someone had been playing my drums and I got a little angry with the club owner. So Albert called me up at the club and was real nice and apologetic. I went down to see his show and it really just tore my head off. The thing that I had seen and felt with Albert King came pouring back on me when I saw Albert Collins."
A few months later, Albert desperately needed a drummer for a tour of the Northwest and he called Coco. "When he called," recalls Coco, "I figured we'd rehearse for a few weeks before the tour. Instead, he told me he'd pick me up in three hours." During the tour, Albert took Montoya under his wing, teaching him about the blues. After the tour ended, Montoya remained in Collins' band for five more years. It was during this time that Coco began doubling on guitar. And Collins went out of his way to teach the youngster. "We'd sit in hotel rooms for hours and play guitar," remembers Montoya. "He'd play that beautiful rhythm of his and just have me play along. He was always saying, 'Don't think about it, just feel it.' He taught me to tap into an inner strength. What a great gift he gave me." As Montoya's guitar playing improved, his relationship with Collins kept growing. "He was like a father to me," says Coco, who often crashed at Collins' house. When Collins declared Montoya his "son," it was the highest praise and affection he could offer. In return, Montoya learned everything he could from the legendary Master of the Telecaster.
As disco began to take over and gigs began to dry up, Montoya left Collins' band, but the two stayed very close friends. Montoya worked as a bartender, figuring his career as a musician was over. But luck was still on his side. He kept playing guitar ("I had plenty of time on my hands," Montoya recalls) and eventually others took note of his prowess. One night in the early 1980s, Montoya was jamming in a Los Angeles bar when John Mayall walked in. As a quick tribute, Montoya launched into All Your Love I Miss Loving. Impressed, Mayall left the club with a soundboard tape. When Mayall needed a guitarist for the newly reformed Bluesbreakers, he called Coco Montoya. Filling the shoes of previous Bluesbreaker guitarists Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor would not be easy, but Montoya knew he could not pass up the opportunity to play with another blues legend. He joined the band, determined to become an even greater guitarist. For the next ten years he toured the world and recorded with Mayall, soaking up everything he could. Along with fellow Bluesbreaker guitarist Walter Trout, Montoya was a featured member of the band, and often opened shows with his own blistering blues. And like the great guitarists who came before him in the Bluesbreakers, Montoya's emergence as a scalding hot player with chops to burn suggested big things to come.
By the early 1990s, Montoya was at another crossroads. He had been with the Bluesbreakers for ten years and felt ready for a change. His friend Albert Collins had been diagnosed with cancer, and during one visit, Collins told Coco to move on and do his own thing. Montoya talked to Mayall, who understood the time was right. "Both Albert and John pushed me out of the nest nice and easy," says Coco. Although he was nervous about the move, Montoya put a band together and hit the road, proving himself night after night. His debut as a leader, 1995's Gotta Mind To Travel (originally on Silvertone Records in England and later issued in the USA on Blind Pig Records), became an instant favorite with blues fans, radio programmers and critics. The album introduced Montoya as a bandleader who immediately ranked among the best players on the contemporary blues scene. In 1996, he was nominated for four W.C. Handy Awards and walked away with the award for Best New Blues Artist.
Montoya's follow-up, 1996's Ya Think I'd Know Better (Blind Pig), showcased a feral blues rocker with vocal skills matched only by his ferocious guitar playing. The album stayed on the Billboard Blues Chart for 14 weeks, reaching the number 10 position. The Washington Post called the CD, "One of the year's strongest blues-rock albums." 1997's Just Let Go (Blind Pig) continued to highlight Montoya's steely guitar licks and intense vocals, earning him legions of new fans everywhere he played. "He sings and plays with passionate abandon," shouted the Boston Globe.
In 2000, Coco's Alligator debut, Suspicion, quickly became the best-selling album of his career. "Powerhouse blues," exclaimed Guitar Player, "searing tone, emotional soloing, and energetic, unforced vocals…stunning." With regular radio airplay on over 120 stations nationwide, Montoya's fan base exploded. The record held the number one position on the Living Blues radio chart for three straight months. And it landed on the Billboard Blues Chart for 11 weeks in a row, peaking at number 11. Features and reviews ran in Billboard, Guitar Player, The New York Times, Blues Revue, JazzTimes, The Chicago Tribune, and countless other national and regional publications.
Averaging over 200 tour dates a year, Montoya packs clubs and theaters around the world. He has played major festivals, including the New Orleans Jazz&Heritage Festival, The Chicago Blues Festival, The San Francisco Blues Festival and Canada's Inter-national Jazz Festival. It's no coincidence that publications from The Philadelphia Daily News to Blues Revue to Living Blues to The Village Voice all rank Coco among the best guitarists and singers on the blues scene. "Montoya is at the forefront of the contemporary blues world," declared Guitar World. "He is one of the truly gifted blues artists of his generation," said Living Blues. With Can't Look Back and continued non-stop touring, Coco Montoya is blasting head first into the future, and he's bringing everyone along for the fiery, blues-rocking ride. |

Description: friday December 04 7 pm doors / 8 pm showtime JohnJay & Rich s Strictly Tucson Phooson with 3OH!3 (Pop)with Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber all ages ON SALE NOW This is a story about two boys from Colorado. They both grew up in the faux-hippy town of Boulder and ended up at the University of Colorado. One, Nathaniel Motte, graduated summa cum laude and got into medical school, the other, Sean Foreman, got college degrees in math and English. Nat spoke fluent French, Sean won the Ultimate Frisbee World Championship in Finland when he was nineteen. Both loved hip-hop, but hated the exclusivity of the scene. They disagreed with the common assumption that anything on the radio was the work of Satan. So they started making beats in their basement and writing songs that blended rock and hip-hop and dance and pop and who knows what else, and petitioned to remove the "guilty" from "guilty pleasure." They used their area code as their band name, except with an added exclamation point. The raucous songs caught the attention of Matt Galle, owner of New York-based indie label Photo Finish Records and booking agent to superstars like My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday, and producer Matt Squire, who pretty much produces every awesome band nowadays. Galle signed them to Photo Finish and Squire co-produced the duo's debut, Want, a collection of infectious songs. 3OH!3 headed out on Warped Tour in the summer of 2008 as their first real tour. There they learned that showers are overrated and if you have punchy, rhyming lyrics, dancey rap beats and a raucous live show that involved choreography, kids will come see you play. So many kids, in fact, that your stage will get more and more packed every day as the tour progresses, inciting jealousy from all the other bands. Want was released on July 8, 2008 while they were playing a parking lot in 100-degree heat. The disc's first single was "Don't Trust Me," which was co-produced with Benny Blanco, a song that went to No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart. The band was sent back on the road in the fall for a headlining tour sponsored by MySpace, who jumped on the 3OH3! bandwagon after the pair was a Top 3 artist on the site for several months. The only problem was that Sean was in Brooklyn and the band's gear was in Colorado. So Sean rode his bike from New York to Denver over the course of twenty-two days, clearing his head and sleeping in bushes by the side of the road along the way. On the fall tour, the band sold out so many venues they were forced to move some of the shows to bigger rooms, culminating at show at San Diego's Soma for 2,500 screaming fans. Radio stations began playing "Don't Trust Me," bleeping out swear words like "ho" and "Helen Keller." MTV and Fuse threw the video into rotation. Katy Perry called and told the boys to pack their bags for Europe, where they traveled around in a soccer mom van as the only openers on Perry's tour. MTV called and told the boys to pack their Speedos for Spring Break, conveniently scripting them into an episode of The Real World: Cancun. Alternative Press called and told the boys to start working out before their cover shoot and headlining slot on the Alternative Press Tour, which kicked off at SxSW in March. Because no one really ever needs to go home or sleep in a real bed, Sean and Nat jumped almost immediately on Warped Tour for their second run. This time they knew the ropes. Bringing a padlock to secure your own porta-potty backstage each day, for example. They were the biggest band on the tour and even though some people might argue with that, it's true. "Don't Trust Me" was certified double platinum. They remixed second single "Starstrukk" to include vocals from Katy Perry and released it at the end of August. Tours were planned in Europe, Australia and the States for the fall. MTV called again and told the band they were nominated for a Video Music Award for "Best New Artist." It all seems like a lot to take in, especially for a band with only one album out. But don't worry. If music fails, Nat can become a rich doctor and pay for Sean to pedal a unicycle across Canada. The path to perfection is a humble road, but one that longevity will pave . At the tender age of 19, Florida native Jason Derulo has already experienced feats that many veterans in the game aspire to. A multi-talented artist/songwriter on the brink of stardom, Jason has contributed his talents to the likes of Lil Wayne, Sean Kingston, Betty Wright and Danity Kane to name a few. As a performer he has shared the stage with artist such as, T-Pain, Akon and Mims. His strong stage performances have drawn rave reviews, and have made him a well sought after entertainer. A winner of countless awards, Jason also gained major notoriety by winning the 2006 Apollo Season Finale Grand Championship. After a long courtship by many record labels, Jason has teamed up with multi-platinum music producer J.R Rotem and his label Beluga Heights/Warner Bros. Records, and is currently in Los Angeles completing his highly anticipated debut album due this summer. Jason s first official single titled Whatcha Say , produced by J.R. Rotem, will be hitting radio in the Summer of 2009. With incredible label support, unparalleled talent and God s Blessing, Jason Derulo is about to take the music world by storm! Music Highlights: 2006 Showtime at the Apollo season finale Grand championship winner. Graduated from the prestigious musical theater conservatory AMDA (The American Musical and Dramatic Academy) in 2006. State Champion and national finalist in the nationally televised NAACP ACT-so competition (vocalist). Repeat first place winner of the Florida state best vocalist championship. Attended performing Arts School s since the age of 8. Winner of all 17 talent shows entered into across the country. Professional hip-hop dancer with The Pfuzion Dance Company Inc. Selected as one of AMDA s top five tap dancers, to perform at the renowned Main Stage Theater. An old soul is the last thing you would expect to find inside Justin Bieber. But all it takes is one listen to the 15 year-old soul-singing phenomenon to realize that he is light years ahead of his manufactured pop peers. After posting dozens of homemade videos on YouTube in 2007, where the multi-talented Bieber put his impeccable spin on songs from artists like Usher, Ne-Yo and Stevie Wonder, Justin racked up over 10,000,000 views purely from word of mouth. In an effort to share his victory with his loved ones, Justin began posting his performance footage online. I put my singing videos from the competition on YouTube so that my friends and family could watch them, he says. But it turned out that other people liked them and they started subscribing to them. That s how my manager found me. He saw me on YouTube and contacted my family and now I m signed! Seven months after Justin started posting his videos online, former So So Def marketing executive Scooter Braun flew the then 13-year old singer to Atlanta, GA to meet with his elite colleagues. As if Justin s natural singing talent wasn t enough to impress Scooter s inner circle, Braun knew Bieber was also a self-taught musician who plays the drums, guitar, piano and trumpet. Right when we flew into Atlanta, Scooter drove us to the studio and Usher was there in the parking lot, remembers Bieber. That was my first time ever being out of Canada so I went up to him and was like, 'Hey Usher, I love your songs, do you want me to sing you one? He was like, 'No little buddy, just come inside, it s cold out. All it took was a short time online for Usher to realize he was in the company of a future superstar. A week later Usher flew me back to Atlanta, says Bieber. I sang for him and his people and he really wanted to sign me then and there but I still had a meeting with Justin Timberlake who also wanted to sign me. It turned out Usher s deal was way better. He had L.A. Reid backing him up and Scooter had a lot of really good connections in Atlanta. I always tease Usher now and remind him he how he blew me off the first time we met. In October of 2008, Justin Bieber officially signed to Island Records. His debut album, My World is an intimate look into the mind of a budding young renaissance man. With production from star hit men like The Dream and Tricky Stewart who produced Umbrella for Rihanna and Beyonce s latest smash, Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), Justin has everything he needs to achieve pop supremacy. His first single, One Time produced by Tricky, is about one of Justin s favorite topics, puppy love. Usher joins Justin on First Dance where the two share verses on a song that Bieber describes as, A slow groovy song that people can dance to. On the Midi-Mafia produced Down to Earth Justin digs deep to talk about growing up. Bigger finds the teenaged singer maturing at a steady rate, while motivating his listeners to strive for their goals. I m looking forward to influencing others in a positive way, says Justin. My message is you can do anything if you just put your mind to it. I grew up below the poverty line; I didn t have as much as other people did. I think it made me stronger as a person it built my character. Now I have a 4.0 grade point average and I want to go to college and just become a better person. A virtually untapped well of natural artistic talent, Justin Bieber is primed to be a solid force in music for many years to come. I think older people can appreciate my music because I really show my heart when I sing, and it s not corny, he says. I think I can grow as an artist and my fans will grow with me. And just think, he s just getting started. Presented by Johnjay and Rich $37 general admission advance $42 reserve seated balcony * prices may be subject to service fees
