Description: The Allstate Foundation Presents Play It Safe is a new permanent exhibit at Chicago Children's Museum that encourages children and families to step into the shoes of a firefighter for a day and explore fire safety through imaginative play.
Inspired by visits to real Chicago firehouses and developed in collaboration with the Chicago Fire Department, Play It Safe features an authentic-looking firehouse where children and families can take calls and dispatch trucks at a command center, dress up like a firefighter, slide down a fire pole, sound the siren in a fire truck and practice escaping a “smoke-filled” room in the “Get Low and Go” bedroom. |

Description: Houdini Magic Weekend #2
November 27, 28 and 29
Friday, Saturday and Sunday
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Back by popular demand, Playland-Not-at-the-Beach presents another weekend of magic and mystery. Come to see a bevy of famous northern California magicians perform, take a class in magic, and watch recordings of the great masters in the history of the art of magic and illusion.
The special events of the Houdini Magic Weekend are in addition to all of Playland's regular attractions. Guests pay one low price to enter and can play all day: $10 for children and seniors, and $15 for general admission. Playland-Not-at-the-Beach is a nonprofit Museum of Fun. Designed and built entirely by volunteers, the 20+ interactive exhibits celebrate the magic and history of America's bygone amusements -- circuses, carnivals, magic, side shows, penny arcades, amusement devices, pinball arcades, haunted houses, and beautiful art everywhere. Our goal is to educate newer generations about the bygone days and allow those who remember Whitney's Playland and the Sutro Baths the opportunity to recapture the glorious sights and sounds of that marvelous era.

Description: The 14th annual Family Trees gives Concord’s renowned literary tradition a creative twist, as the Concord Museum is filled with fanciful trees of all shapes and sizes inspired by acclaimed children’s storybooks and contemporary picture book favorites.
Serving as inspiration for this year’s trees are books that are classics and sure-to-become classics. Selections include: Fancy Nancy: Explorer Extraordinaire, by Jane O’Connor, illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser; If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, by Laura Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond; Richard Scarry’s Cars and Trucks and Things That Go; The Imaginary Garden, by Andrew Larsen, illustrated by Irene Luxbacher; The Snow Day, by Komako Sakai; Town Mouse, Country Mouse, by Jan Brett; Flotsam, by David Weisner; and many other favorites. The exhibition’s focus on children’s literature makes Family Trees unique among the many holiday events in Greater Boston. Each tree serves as a canvas for the artistic creations of a dedicated team of volunteer decorators. Inspired by the storyline, the illustrations, the characters or setting of a particular book, the decorators let their imaginations take flight, much to the delight of visitors of all ages from all over New England.
Proceeds from Family Trees, organized by the Museum’s Guild of Volunteers, benefit the Concord Museum’s educational mission serving an audience of preschoolers, school-age children, college students, families, adults and seniors in over 600 school and public programs yearly. |
