Currently Linda is a personal assistant for bestselling author and acclaimed teacher of “A Course In Miracles,” Gary Renard, and gives monthly workshops on the Wisdom of True Forgiveness. Her book, ‘One Again: A True Story of a Different Kind of Forgiveness,’ is the story of how she was finally able to forgive a traumatic childhood, including being gang-raped at the age of 13 followed by years of self destruction. Author of Shot to Death: How and Why Karl Krogstad Makes Films
Thursday evening, December 3 @ 7 p.m.
Olympic Room, Main Library
1102 Taocma Avenue South
Over the course of his long career, legendary Seattle film artist Karl Krogstad has produced and directed more than 65 short and feature-length films, and has been honored with 30 awards from international film festivals. “Love him or hate him, there’s no denying the artistic imperative that drives his vision of experimental cinema,” says Seattle Weekly. According to Resonance Magazine, “the 54-year-old artist is irrepressible, annoying, P.T. Barnum and a self induced maniac.” Rolling Stone Magazine described Krogstad as "one of America’s greatest independent filmmakers.”
Krogstad began his zany and insightful career as writer, director and producer in 1968 and is one of Seattle's most celebrated independent filmmakers. A talented painter, Karl Krogstad's work is on exhibit at Tacoma's Two Vaults Gallery in November and December.
Presented in partnership with The Grand Cinema and Two Vaults Gallery. |

Description: Ever wondered what it’s like when history teachers and students are brought together for a candid dialogue on the current state of teaching history in Singapore?
History teachers can ill afford to ignore the practice, planning and future place of their profession at a time when change is the basic frame of life and work in a city-state imagining itself to be a global city. It is timely for teachers to venture beyond their individual work and mental spaces to share their ideas, achievements and failures, which are of wider relevance to colleagues and students.
This session targeted at school teachers, trainee teachers, academics, and history students, provides an opportunity to reflect informally on their endeavours. On a wider scale, it seeks to consider the future of the craft and the ways teachers can shape it.
Due to limited seats, registration is required and can be made via http://golibrary.nlb.gov.sg and surf on to 'SG101'.
Calling for Presenters
Presenters will be given 10 minutes to speak on their selected topic. To register, please send a proposal including your CV/resume, a 100-word abstract on the topic and the working title to Dr Loh Kah Seng via email: lkshis@gmail.com by 15 November 2009. Description: In December, Alice McCall, will be giving two free talks in Tallahassee on Natural Health and Healing: Tuesday 12/8, 7-8:30pm to the Healing Arts Alliance of Tallahassee, and Wed 12/9 6:30- 8pm at the Crystal Connection. Both events are free and open to the public. Ms. McCall's lecture will focus on what really causes health issues and diseases with alternative ways to maintain health and heal. She will explore the mind, emotion, and spiritual connection to the body, as well as diet and nutrition, the importance of sleep, and more. These special events are followed by a Q&A and a book signing with Ms. McCall.
Alice McCall authored “Wellness Wisdom,” a reference book that highlights her personal journey with breast cancer in 2007. “I was filled with fear when I was told I had breast cancer, but deep inside I knew that I could heal myself through transforming the root emotional cause and supporting my body with lots of love, healing foods, and sleep,” says Ms. McCall.
Wellness Wisdom is primarily a reference book that gives the ‘how to’s’ of natural health and healing from spiritual aspects of healing, diet and nutrition, to holistic healthcare practices and protocols. “The goal of the book is put all the information that I worked to discover in one place,” shares Ms. McCall. “I want to help someone pull all the pieces together that are needed to maintain health or heal disease.”
Approximately 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. In 2009 alone, there was an estimated 192,320 new cases reported in the United States. For those seeking natural methods of maintaining health, healing, or preventing cancer and other health issues, Alice McCall offers practical advice and hope.
Nearly all of our lives have been touched in some way by diseases like cancer, whether we have lost someone close, know those who survived, or know those who are at risk. Ms. McCall’s book offers an alternate view and personal experiences that are relatable, helpful, and always enlightening.
Ms. McCall has a successful career as a Transformational Energy Healer, Spiritual Counselor, and Inspirational Speaker. Her specialty is helping those with serious diseases. She works with clients all over the U.S. via phone sessions. Learn more about her practice at www.healingpath.info or by calling 850-585-5496. Description: My New Orleans: The Cookbook is Chef John Besh’s celebration of the food he loved as a boy growing up on the bayous, refined in his years of study in America and in Europe, and brought home to his beloved city. It is here he has passionately thrown himself into the rebuilding of post-Katrina New Orleans, and to the making of his restaurants, Restaurant August, Lüke, Besh Steak, La Provence and Dominica – indelible parts of the city’s restaurant landscape. My New Orleans is also a photographic journey of Besh’s personal past and a celebration of the city’s iconic food imagery. As Besh writes: “This book is the story of a dreamy, starry eyed boy brought up in the shadows of New Orleans, surrounded by cypress knees and tupelo trees, good dinners and great friends. Memories of my childhood, both good and bad, have etched themselves deep into
my soul: everything that I cook and eat, see and smell, reminds me of where I come from and more or less dictates where I am going.”
In My New Orleans, Chef Besh tells the enduring story of preserving the region’s rituals and livelihood through raising food well, cooking it with joy, and being mindful of the fragility that swirls around the city many Americans love most. It offers a unique culinary history of the city and its cooking while Chef Besh celebrates the advice that ensures success for the home cook. His recipes preserve New Orleans’ traditions and ingredients: Seafood Gumbo, Crawfish Étouffée, Jambalaya, Crab Bisque, Beignets, Watermelon Pickles, Fried Oysters, Red Beans and Rice – these New Orleans classics are joined by some of Chef Besh’s more contemporary dishes featured in over 200 recipes.
When the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina threatened New Orleans’ fishermen, farmers, shrimpers and oystermen, it was Chef Besh who led the way to preserve and protect the region’s unique culinary heritage and its local ingredients. My New Orleans explores Besh’s life post Katrina, which ultimately further shaped his identity as a chef. He became obsessed with seeking out ingredients that encompass the flavors of the city and region – not those shipped in from all corners of the US. My New Orleans tells the story of how John Besh became a leader of the new generation of New Orleans chefs who dedicate themselves to the singular cuisine of the city each and every day. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of My New Orleans will be donated to Café Reconcile, a New Orleans-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing at risk youth an opportunity to learn life and interpersonal skills, and operational training for successful entry into the hospitality and restaurant business. |
