A German woman, reduced to desperate straits during the Soviet occupation of Berlin, enters into a tense relationship with a Russian officer. Max Färberböck (Aimée & Jaguar) wrote and directed from the diary published under the name Anonyma.
Set in 1945 during the Red Army invasion of Berlin- German women are victims of rape and devastation; one of them is Anonyma (NINA HOSS), a former journalist and photographer. In her desperate quest for survival, she decides to look for an officer who can protect her. She meets Andrej (EVGENY SIDIKHIN), a Russian officer with whom she develops a complex relationship that forces them to remain enemies until the bitter end. A true story, based on the controversial international bestseller by Anonyma published in more than 20 countries. |

THE DEVIL'S TAIL: When Eddie disappears in the Yucatan Pete abandons his predictable life in Toronto, charging off without a plan to find his best friend, a charming Texan never-do-well. Arriving in Mexico with girlfriend Zoe and pal Dave, he is plunged into a world far darker than the familiar tourist images of Cancun. During his search Pete reunites with childhood love Kate, now Eddie's girlfriend, and befriends a retired Border Patrolman from Texas who is troubled by the disappearance of several local Mexicans connected to Eddie. As the number of the missing climbs, Pete uncovers more about his own past and his friend than he can bear. Blackly humorous, this is a raw, complex, human drama set against Mayan Ruins and stunning beaches in a beautiful country wrestling with its own history of racism and its convoluted relationship with "Norteamericanos".
"Truly great films should push you further and show you something about yourself that makes you question things. This is one of those films."
-Trista DeVries, Toronto Film Scene

Description: Decatur, AL - Decatur’s historic Princess Theatre presents the holiday classic film “A CHRISTMAS STORY” on the big screen on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
The 1983 PG-comedy film has become one of the most popular Christmas movie classics.
The screening is the first time that the Princess Theatre has featured a Christmas film classic
and if successful, the Theatre hopes to make Christmas films an annual holiday tradition.
“A CHRISTMAS STORY,” a nostalgic view of Christmas in Indiana during the 1940s, stars Peter Billingsley as Ralphie, a nine-year old who has only one thing on his Christmas list:
“a Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-Shot Air Rifle.” The movie follows Ralphie and his quest and the epic events which led up to Christmas morning. Darren McGavin stars as the Old Man or Ralphie’s father Mr. Parker along with Melinda Dillon as Mrs. Parker.
The New York Times calls “A CHRISTMAS STORY,” “maybe the best Christmas movie ever.” The movie features a bunch of vignettes about family life and small-town Americana. Among the favorite film vignettes of cult viewers – Ralphie’s friends triple dog dare and disputing whether a person’s tongue will stick to a frozen flagpole, the neighbors’ dogs destroying the Christmas turkey, eating Chinese turkey at the local Chinese restaurant. In addition to the film, the Princess Theatre is planning activities related to the movie’s theme for the audience such as a raffle of the iconic leg lamp from the film. Audiences are encouraged to come in the costume of their favorite character for a look a like contest. The nostalgic evening at the movie will offer concession sales of wine, beer, drinks, candy and of course, pop corn. General admission tickets are $8 available in advance at the Princess Theatre box office at 256.340.1778 or online at www.princesstheatre.org or one hour prior to show time. |

Description: Workshop: Audio Postproduction Using Nuendo
Saturday November 28, Sunday November 29 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Audio post-production is an essential part of completion of the editing process. Without audio post, your audience can become distracted with abrupt changes in the volume or background sound of your film. As well, a proper mix of music dramatically increases the connection of the audience to the visuals.
In this workshop, we cover all the elements of good post-production sound: exporting the audio from Final Cut Pro, editing dialog, cleaning up sound, and mixing music.
On day two we will set up the studio for ADR / Foley recording and editing so that we can explore designing background sound, designing sound effects, and creating a final mix.

In every corner of the world, there's one question that can never be definitively answered, yet stirs up equal parts passion, curiosity, self-reflection and often wild imagination: "What is God?" Filmmaker Peter Rodger explores this profound, age-old query in the provocative non-fiction feature OH MY GOD? This visual odyssey travels the globe with a revealing lens examining the idea of God through the minds and eyes of various religions and cultures, everyday people, spiritual leaders and celebrities. His goal: to give the viewer the personal, visceral experience of some kind of reasonable, meaningful definition of one of the most used—some might say overused--words in most every language.
Rodger's quest takes him from the United States to Africa, from the Middle East to the Far East, where such fundamental issues as: "Did God create man or did man create God?, "Is there one God for all religions?" and "If God exists, why does he allow so much suffering?" are explored in candid discussions with the various Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and even atheists the filmmaker meets along the way.
OH MY GOD? stars Hugh Jackman, Seal, Ringo Starr, Sir Bob Geldof, Princess Michael of Kent, David Copperfield and Jack Thompson. The film’s running time is 98 minutes; it is not rated. |

Description: A Weekend at Southdown Abbey
Come visit Austin, Texas as it is transformed into Southdown Abbey on Persephone from the Firefly and Serenity 'Verse.
Join us as we celebrate Shepherd Book's journey before becoming a crew member on Serenity. On Friday we start with an Abbey Fashion Show, showcasing Asian-inspired designs, while offering Sereniteas' blended teas, as well as a variety of Dim Sum.
Saturday will find us having a costume picnic on the Abbey grounds and then a dance in the Fellowship Hall with music by The Bedlam Bards and food made primarily from produce grown at the Abbey!
We'll end this shiny shindig Sunday afternoon with Serenity on the Big Screen at our local Alamo Drafthouse Lake Creek.
The best part - all proceeds from this event will go to support The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center of which Ron Glass, our Shepherd Book, is a Board Member.
We are looking for volunteers to help plan and run Lone Star Shindig. We need assistance in the following areas: cooking and picnic prep, decorations to turn Grace Methodist Church into Shepherd Book's Southdown Abbey on Persephone, clean up crew for after the events on Saturday night, street and e-street team to spread the word about the event, and publications help to provide printed materials. For more details about these positions, visit www.lonestarshindig.com/volunteer.php. If you want to volunteer, but don't see the perfect position available, please contact us at: volunteer@austinbrowncoats.com, so we can find a place that best suits your skills. Help us save the world, one shindig at a time.
Tickets are available at our website, www.lonestarshindig.com. Tickets are $25/person if paid via check or money order. You can also buy your tickets online via Paypal for $26/person. Tickets for just the Friday night Fashion show are $5.
Want to spend a weekend at Southdown Abbey? Get your tickets now. Space is extremely limited for this event, so don't miss out! |
