The glorious sounds of brass, wind and percussion instruments will herald the holiday season with a special concert to benefit area seniors. The award-winning Coastal Communities Concert Band will donate all concert proceeds from their 15th Annual Holiday Concert to Meals-on-Wheels of Greater San Diego. This year’s concert will include a variety of festive old favorites and new holiday arrangements, vocal selections by the incomparable Michael Ruhl and Lillian Palmer, special guest performers, and an annual tribute to our nation’s service men and women. This event will take place on Sunday, December 6th, at 2:00 p.m. It will be located at California Center for the Arts, Escondido 340 North Escondido Blvd., Escondido. Capoeira is a uniquely Brazilian martial art dating back to the 16th century with a recent growth in popularity in recent years partly due to exposure in film and television.
Movements are graceful, almost dance-like combinations of kicks, throws, acrobatics, and ground movements that enhance awareness, flexibility, and strength.
Classes start out with a warm up and stretching sessions to increase flexibility. The class is a group format but frequently encompasses work with partners.
Students will learn foundational movements and escapes combined with sequences to mimic real capoeira situations.

Santa will pose for free photos on his surfboard from 1-5 p.m. Throughout the day patrons can exchange old holiday lights for LED lights free of charge sponsored by SDG&E and enjoy strolling entertainers, free holiday crafting, unique holiday shopping and delectable dining. At 5 p.m. the switch will be thrown to light the Port of San Diego’s Green Holiday Tree. The locally grown tree will be decorated with LED lights and ornaments made by visitors that day using recycled materials.

The Friends of the San Diego River Mouth need volunteers with an interest in helping to save and restore one of the last remaining Coastal Dune Habitats in San Diego.
Over 95% of these habitat areas are now gone due to development. Home to many endangered birds, fish and mammals this area needs your help to remain as a viable habitat area. Activities to include invasive plant removal, native plant rescue, trail maintenance and litter removal. Help us make a difference for the wildlife that can only survive here and nowhere else. All tools and supplies are provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed shoes, no sandals or flip-flops allowed for safety reasons. Volunteers will meet in the grassy area by Dog Beach in Ocean Beach at the western end of Voltaire Ave. For more info call 619.297.7380 or email richard@sandiegoriver.org
