The work is a mesmerizing romantic suspense/thriller about a macabre, doomed romance - a desperate love for an illusion. The film (written by Alec Coppel and Samuel A. Taylor and based on a novel by Boileau-Narcejac), stars James Stewart, Kim Novak and Barbara Bel Geddes. In the film, a retired police detective who has acrophobia is hired as a private investigator to follow the wife of an acquaintance and uncover the mystery of her peculiar behavior.
