The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster & Seafood Festival is excited to announce the largest and only event celebrating and promoting the Gulf Coast Oyster. The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival is planned for November 6th - 8th, 2009 inside the setting of the beach town of Orange Beach, Alabama. The citys sea side setting provides festival attendees with the freshest oysters, shellfish and seafood straight from the Gulf. This event is set to help rebuild the economy through the establishment of a new tradition. The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival is a four day festival that prides itself in offering non imported, local & fresh seafood vendors. The festival features live music on all four days, plus art vendors, craftsmen, beer vendors, kids area, fresh seafood, oyster eating contests, home brewing demonstrations and an assortment of food from a variety of regions. The Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival & Brew Fest is honored to be ranked as one of the top events for the state of Alabama. This years festival is executed as the biggest and best Oyster festival within a five state region (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana). Combining great food, great music and life moments, the Alabama Gulf Coast Oyster Festival is a must attend event. The entertainment stage offers a diverse mix of musical genres and regional acts from country, to bluegrass. Additionally, the festival offers fun contests which include, a sing off, an oyster shucking contest, a recipe cook off and of course, an oyster eating challenge. The festival layout features three tents that include an Oyster Education Tent hosted by the Auburn Universitys extension program. The educational tent highlights and presents oyster facts to attendees. The second tent is a Brew Fest tent that is provided by the beer sponsor and will feature local brews & beers, home brew workshops and taste areas. The final tent is a kids area that features childrens activities. The kids tent is open from 10am-5pm each day of the festival. The artisan & craftsman area will feature a mix of artists, organizations and businesses. The main area is comprised of food vendors which will serve delicious oysters, shell fish, seafood and traditional festival treats for attendees to try. There will be something for everyone to enjoy. The event has become Northeast Ohio’s largest and most successful fundraiser in celebration of recovery. More important, it has provided us with a unique public forum to recognize our most highly respected leaders that have made a significant contribution to our agency and to our field. One of the most important parts of the evening’s celebration is to honor an individual or organization in our community with the Bronze Key Award. The 2009 Bronze Key Recipient will be awarded to the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. The award is the highest recognition presented by the National Council for Alcohol and Drug Dependence. Recovery Resources, as the regional affiliate agency for NCADD, is honored to present this award locally. The silent auction will once again be a large part of the event’s overall success to help the agency continue to raise critically needed funding for individuals who do not have the ability to pay for their care. He has studied and played African drums with various master drummers such as Congolese master drummer Elie Kihonia and Mamady Keita. He also studied African music with noted scholar Kwabena Nketia from Ghana. He has researched traditional African music for over 20 years via performance, readings and field recordings, and has continuously integrated his findings into all his music both as a solo recording artist and with Rusted Root. As a solo artist and teacher, Donovan has released 6 highly acclaimed solo CD's as well as 4 instructional drumming CD's. Including his newest release The Yoga of Drum and Chant CD. Fulfilling his desire to share the power of rhythm first hand, Donovan built a series of educational drumming workshop programs that he teaches across the US and Europe at universities, festivals, schools, corporations, and specialty venues. He is a full time instructor of music at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA, the current director of the Saint Francis University World Drumming Ensemble. and the director of The annual Summer Rhythm Renewal Drumming Retreat.
